Wolf Theiss advises Raiffeisen Digital Bank AG on its first NPL portfolio sale transaction on the Polish market
Vienna, Warsaw, 29 January 2026 – Wolf Theiss has advised Raiffeisen Digital Bank AG in connection with the bank’s first non-performing loan (NPL) portfolio sale transaction on the Polish market.
Raiffeisen Digital Bank AG is an Austrian bank headquartered in Vienna that operates exclusively online. The bank provides fully digital loans and banking services designed to offer fast and transparent access to financing for private individuals. Its digital platform supports international partners by enabling them to offer banking products from a trusted and technology-driven brand.
This deal was one of the first transactions to take into account new legislation transposing the Non-Performing-Loan Directive (EU) 2021/2167, which aims at reducing NPLs on EU bank balance sheets by improving secondary markets for distressed credit. We acted as legal counsel on both Austrian and Polish law for the bank.
“As we expand our presence in the Polish market, this achievement underscores our commitment to driving innovative financial solutions and fostering sustainable market growth. We extend our gratitude to all partners, especially Wolf Theiss, for their collaboration and trust throughout this process.”
– Mihai Tulai, Head of Retail Risk Management, Raiffeisen Digital Bank AG
“We appreciate the trust Raiffeisen Digital Bank AG has placed in us on this significant transaction. Supporting the bank on its first NPL portfolio sale in Poland reflects our long-standing cooperation and our commitment to delivering precise and effective cross-border legal advice. We value the constructive collaboration throughout the process and are pleased to have contributed to this important step in the bank’s development in the Polish market.”
– Andrea Gritsch, Partner, Wolf Theiss
