Wolf Theiss represents lenders and hedge counterparties in EUR 113 Mio. financing for roll-out of fibre optic networks in Liezen

Vienna, 31 August 2023 – Wolf Theiss acted as legal counsel to UniCredit Bank Austria AG, CaixaBank S.A, La Banque Postale and Bondholders, S.L. with respect to a EUR 113,000,000 syndicated financing for the roll-out, operation, and maintenance of an open-access Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) network in the district of Liezen.

The financing obtained by RML Infrastruktur GmbH, a subsidiary of the European infrastructure investor Meridiam, with minority holdings of Alpen Glasfaser Zwei GmbH, a joint venture of Meridiam and Magenta, and a publicly held entity held by the municipalities of the Liezen district, will drive the realization of the FTTH network. This will provide approximately 54,000 buildings in the Liezen region with high-speed fibre-optic connectivity. In addition to the financing, the project is also subsidised by the European Union and the Republic of Austria.

Wolf Theiss advised the lenders on the preparation and closing of the loan agreement and interest rate hedging documentation. While Partner Andreas Schmid acted as the lead attorney, he was further supported by Partner Claus Schneider, Senior Associate Markus Aigner and Associate Ivan Ivanov (all Banking & Finance).

This strategic investment reflects the lenders’ commitment to supporting essential infrastructure development and marks another chapter in Wolf Theiss’ legacy of successful project finance collaborations”, comments Partner Andreas Schmid.

Earlier this year, Wolf Theiss represented the joint venture of Meridiam and telecommunications operator Magenta, Alpen Glasfaser in raising comprehensive financing for the roll-out of its high-speed fibre broadband network, underlining Wolf Theiss’ commitment and expertise in project finance.

Meridiam was represented by a team from PHH Rechtsanwälte, led by Partner Wolfram Huber and Associate Johannes Metzler.
