Wolf Theiss advises Vienna-based AI startup chatlyn on EUR 8 million Series A financing round

Vienna, 16 July 2025 – Wolf Theiss has advised Austrian artificial intelligence startup chatlyn on its EUR 8 million Series A financing round. Lead investor was London-based private equity firm Smedvig Ventures.

The company intends to use the new capital to further develop its AI-powered communication platform and expand internationally. Founded in 2022, chatlyn enables centralised guest communication across all common digital channels – from e-mail and WhatsApp to sector-specific platforms such as booking.com.

The company’s proprietary AI recognises customer intent, adapts to the tone and style of each hotel, communicates proactively where required and supports over 35 languages. According to its own information, chatlyn already serves more than 1,000 hotels in over 30 countries, including St. Regis Mauritius, Singer Palace Rome and the InterContinental Hotels Group.

“This funding validates our vision and enables us to scale further. Wolf Theiss provided pragmatic and solution-oriented legal guidance throughout the entire transaction process”,

said Michael Urbanek, CTO and Co-Founder of chatlyn.

“chatlyn exemplifies the innovation potential of Austrian tech companies operating on an international scale. We were pleased to have supported the founders on this important milestone”,

noted Zeno Grabmayr, Partner, Wolf Theiss.

Wolf Theiss advised on all legal aspects of the transaction, including the structuring and negotiation of terms with international investors, preparation and finalisation of the transaction documents, and legal advice on incorporating a public funding commitment by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG).

The Wolf Theiss team advising chatlyn was led by Zeno Grabmayr (Partner) and included Nikolaus Wollner (Counsel), Oliver Kraus (Associate) and Katharina Johler (Associate).
