Decentralized finance, or “DeFi”, refers to the offering of financial services not through central parties, such as banks and insurance companies, but on the basis of immutable computer code running on public blockchain infrastructure.
The Economist has pointed out that this ecosystem of financial services has the potential to rewire how the financial system works, with all the promise and perils that entails.
