Wolf Theiss authors Hungary chapter for the 10th edition of Lexology In Depth: Consumer Finance Law

Lexology’s In‑Depth: Consumer Finance Law provides a comparative overview of the regulatory frameworks governing consumer financial services across multiple jurisdictions. The guide outlines recent shifts in legislation and supervisory practice and addresses core areas such as payments, deposits, revolving credit and instalment-based credit arrangements.

In Hungary, regulatory measures affecting consumer finance have continued to evolve in response to earlier economic shocks. Legislative amendments introduced after the 2008 financial crisis and the covid‑19 pandemic – including changes stemming from EU law – have been aimed at reinforcing financial stability and strengthening consumer protection mechanisms.

Our Banking & Finance experts – Melinda Pelikán, Gergely Szalóki, László Lovas and Viktória Horváth – prepared the Hungary chapter for the guide’s 10th edition. Their analysis considers how current regulatory tools and supervisory approaches influence the level of protection available to consumers in periods of economic uncertainty.
