Wolf Theiss advises Rheinmetall on a joint venture with Vazovski Mashinostroitelni Zavodi EAD

Sofia, 29 October 2025 – Wolf Theiss has advised Rheinmetall, a leading international systems supplier in the defence industry, on a joint venture for the development and manufacture of artillery shells and energetic materials. 

The joint venture was announced and signed on 28 October 2025 at an official signing ceremony attended by Bulgarian government officials, including the Prime Minister, as well as the CEO and senior management representatives of Rheinmetall.

This joint venture is one of the most notable developments in Bulgaria’s defence industry in recent years. It is expected to strengthen Bulgaria’s NATO-compatible capabilities, boost domestic production capacity, create high-skilled jobs and position the country as a strategic hub for advanced defence technologies in the region.

Rheinmetall is a leading international systems supplier for defence and security technology, specialising in innovative solutions for armed forces worldwide.

VMZ, a state-owned company, is Bulgaria’s largest defence manufacturer with decades of experience in producing military equipment and ammunition.
