Wolf Theiss Expands Warsaw Tax Practice, Appointing Karolina Stawowska As Head Of Team

Warsaw, 7 May 2018 – Wolf Theiss has strengthened its Tax Practice Group in Warsaw, appointing Karolina Stawowska as a Partner and head of the team. This expansion, which also includes the hiring of tax adviser Izabela Wiewiórka, comes in response to growing demand for sophisticated tax advisory services in Poland’s rapidly changing business environment, and is a further step in the firm’s dynamic expansion in Central Europe.

Karolina Stawowska is a tax and business adviser with over 20 years of professional experience, acting for corporate clients, private individuals as well as private equity and venture capital funds. She has worked on restructuring of capital groups, development of tax strategies for acquisitions and sales of companies, and investment financing. Karolina also has extensive experience in tax proceedings and conducting tax litigation in administrative courts. Prior to joining Wolf Theiss, Karolina was a Partner heading the Warsaw tax law practice of Wierzbowski Eversheds Sutherland. Her experience also includes work for consultancy PwC.

“It’s a great pleasure for me to join Wolf Theiss’ team of recognized experts and support its expansion in one of the most interesting markets in the region,” Karolina said. “For the last two decades, Poland has been on the radar screens of major investors, who are seeking sound tax advisory as they expand in the CEE/SEE market, and I’m happy to join Wolf Theiss in providing those services."

Also joining from Wierzbowski Eversheds Sutherland is Izabela Wiewiórka, a licensed tax adviser with over 20 years of experience, specializing in transfer pricing (TP) and tax function management. She has been involved in a number of projects aimed at completing TP documentation at all levels, and supporting clients in the development of their TP models. Izabela has also secured VAT refunds for clients in the real estate sector.

“I am proud to become part of Wolf Theiss, which has one of the most vibrant and ambitious teams of legal experts in Poland,” Izabela said. “Frequent law changes in Poland and the robust expansion of domestic companies is spurring ever-higher demand for sophisticated tax advice.”

“Adding both Karolina and Izabela to our existing strong team of tax experts is a further boost to our expansion in the region,” said Niklas Schmidt, Wolf Theiss' Vienna-based Tax Practice Group head. “Their remarkable professional experience will enhance our provision of complex professional services in the rapidly changing tax law environment in Poland and throughout the CEE/SEE.”
