WOLF THEISS ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF THIS YEAR'S WOLF THEISS AWARD
Vienna, 15 June 2011. WOLF THEISS, a leading law firm with twelve offices in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe, annually grants the Wolf Theiss Award for outstanding academic work. Last Thursday evening the EUR 12,000 prize was awarded in a ceremony at Palais Schönburg.
Numerous authors have answered the annual call for submission of academic publications for the Wolf Theiss Award, an award that has been granted in cooperation with the newspaper Der Standard, Neuer Wissenschaftlicher Verlag and RIDA Rechtsindex Datenbank since 2000. The honors generally go to outstanding papers which address aspects of Austrian, European and international business law.
At the 12th Wolf Theiss Award, one submission clearly stood out to win the top prize of €12,000, Dr Gerold Maximilian Oberhumer's 740 page-dissertation on "Unternehmen und Gesellschaftsanteile in der nachehelichen Vermögensaufteilung" ("Company and Business Shares in the Postmarital Division of Property"). In his congratulatory speech, Prof Dr Thomas Klicka stressed that the work did not receive the top prize due to its volume. "The author deliberately did not choose a trendy topic, but critically and in depth dealt with an existing legal situation. The comprehensibility, clear presentation and practical orientation make this dissertation one of the most outstanding scientific publications I have read during my 20-year-career in academia," explains Klicka.
In addition to the main winner, three other dissertations received publication prizes:
- Dr Michaela Gerschpacher: "Das Pflichtangebot im Übernahmegesetz nach dem Übernahmerechts-Änderungsgesetz 2006" ("The Mandatory Offer in Takeover Law after the Takeover Law Amendment 2006");
- Dr Diana Holzinger: "Nichtigkeit bei Verstößen gegen das Marktmissbrauchsverbot gemäß Art 102 AEUV bzw §5 KartG" ("Nullity for Breaches of the Prohibition of Market Abuse According to Article 102 TFEU and §5 Antitrust Law");
- Dr Michael Albert Stelzer, MIM: "Beschränkte Haftung und unternehmerische Verantwortung" ("Limited Liability and Corporate Responsibility").
The three dissertations are soon to be published as part of the Wolf Theiss Award Series by Neuer Wissenschaftlicher Verlag.
Members of the jury were Prof Dr Susanne Kalss, Prof Dr Martin Karollus, Prof Dr Thomas Klicka, Prof DDr Eduard Lechner, Prof Dr Bernhard Raschauer, Dr Eric Frey of the newspaper Der Standard and Wolf Theiss partners Dr Markus Heidinger and Dr Kurt Retter. Submissions for the Wolf Theiss Award 2012 are now open.
